This course will be covering an overview of a range of central concepts, materials, artists, and approaches of artmaking in the history of art. The course will explore relevant issues in art through describing, active looking, and interpreting various forms of art. Various ways to analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art as an aesthetic and cultural phenomenon will be explored. The course particularly focuses on medium and various approaches to art production of diverse artists. The stories of artistic and historical contexts will help you better understand our culture and society as active life long-learners.

Instructor: Sohee Koo

Sohee Koo received a doctorate in Art and Art Education from Columbia University and a BFA and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. She has more than 5 years of experience as a college-level lecturer, teaching undergraduate and graduate both art majors and non-majors in a wide range of courses including art history, studio art, art criticism, and art education. She has chaired and presented her research at numerous conferences including the National Art Education Association (NAEA), College Art Association (CAA), and Foundation in Art and Theory in Education (FATE). Her articles were published in Visual Inquiry: Learning & Teaching Art, Marilyn Zurmuehlen Working Papers in Art Education, and Routledge/Taylor & Francis.
