2023 AHL – Chun Family Foundation Curatorial OPEN CALL

Overview

The AHL–Chun Family Foundation Curatorial Open Call provides a $3,000 stipend to emerging curators of Korean heritage. This program supports the AHL Foundation’s goal of encouraging both curatorial research of Korean contemporary art and greater diversity within the curatorial field. The curator with the winning exhibition proposal will present their exhibition at AHL Foundation’s Gallery in early winter of 2023 or the summer of 2024. The budget for the exhibition is $3,000, including curators and participating artists’ fees. AHL Foundation staff will provide support with research, marketing, and programming needs.

About

The Chun Family Foundation Scholarship was founded by businessman Chun Myung-guk in 2007 and has awarded scholarships to Korean students every year. Chairman Chun Myung-guk is actively engaged in volunteer work throughout the Korean community as well as scholarship projects to support students. Established in 2017 with special support from the Chun Family Foundation Scholarship Committee, The AHL Foundation’s Curatorial Fellowship Program aims to foster and support Korean contemporary art curators during the early stages of their careers.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Must be of Korean heritage.
  • Fellowship recipient must attend the Chun Family Foundation’s Awards Ceremony and AHL Foundation’s Awards Ceremony to receive the award
  • A selected curatorial fellow will need to submit a short essay. The topic will be notified.
  • Must have authorized working status in the United States.
  • Preference is given to applicants who live and work in (or near) New York City.
  • Proposals for group exhibitions (2+ artists) are preferred.

*Please note that travel and other costs for the award ceremony and exhibition are included as part of the prize money and will not be reimbursed.

 Application Requirements

We recommend having all your information ready to input and upload before starting the online application since it cannot be saved during the process. Please have the following items ready to submit:

  • Short synopsis of proposed project – (maximum 300 words)
  • Curators may not include their own work in the exhibition
  • Detailed exhibition proposal that outlines both the concept and plan for the exhibition
  • A completed budget plan ($3,000) including Shipping Costs, Installations, Catalog (or postcard) Printing, Curatorial/Artists Fee, etc.
  • Curator’s Resume and bio
  • Resume(s) and bio(s) for Participating Artists
  • A PDF of 1-2 images for each artist (maximum 10 images, for media works please include URL links to websites in a pdf format document only)
