Queens Museum Tour

The Queens Museum is located in Flushing in Queens, New York. Situated in the most diverse county in the United States, the Queens Museum has focused on outreach and access for a wide range of audiences. The museum is known for international contemporary art exhibitions that reflect the hyper-diversity of the borough.

During our visit, we will see two exhibitions, Shades of Time: An Exhibition from the Archive of Korean American Artists, Part Two, 1989-2001 and Bringing the World into the World.

Shades of Time: An Exhibition from the Archive of Korean American Artists, Part Two, 1989-2001 is the second exhibition organized with materials from the Archive of Korean American Artists by the AHL Foundation since 2012. This exhibition presents a group of younger generations who set up their studios and started a professional career in the late 1980s and the 1990s and include a wide range of media such as video, mixed media, computer-graphics, and installations.

Bringing the World into the World is an exhibition exploring the physical and intellectual experiences of the act of seeing. The show is inspired by the largest object in the Queens Museum’s collection, the Panorama of the City of New York, a 9,335 square foot scale model of the metropolis commissioned by master builder Robert Moses (1888-1981) for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. At its 50th anniversary, the Panorama remains the world’s largest and most comprehensive model of an urban environment. Throughout its existence, it has continually served as a departing point for many artistic interventions addressing cinema, surveillance, mass media, memory, city planning, and urban spectacle.
