Registration Now Open for AHL Foundation’s First-Ever English-Language Art History Course
10-Week Online Course Runs March 11–May 27, 2026
AHL Foundation is pleased to announce a 10-session online Art History course to be held from Wednesday, March 11 through Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The course will be conducted in English and held every Wednesday at 8:00 PM EST.
Founded in 2016, AHL Foundation’s Art History program has provided Korean immigrant communities with access to contemporary art through lectures delivered in Korean. Marking the program’s 10th anniversary, the foundation is launching English-language courses to meet the diverse needs of its audience and to foster deeper cross-cultural engagement in the art world.
The course will be led by Dr. Jinyoung Koh, who has been teaching AHL’s Korean-language Art History program. He will offer non-Korean-speaking audiences a broad perspective on the various trends and contexts of contemporary Korean art.
About the Course:
This semester’s course, titled “Korean Art Wave”, will explore Korean arts which belong to the major cultural institutions in the United States. 2026. By synchronizing the curriculum with real-time exhibition schedules, the course empowers the Korean-American diaspora to reclaim their cultural heritage and strengthen their identity through direct engagement with national treasures like the Lee Kun-hee Collection.

About the Lecturer:
Dr. Jinyoung Koh is a graduate program director and an assistant professor in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education at Towson University in Maryland. Dr. Koh completed a Doctor of Education in Art & Art Education from Columbia University in New York. He earned a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His art has received numerous awards and is included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
알재단, 2026 봄학기 온라인 영어버전 미술사 수업 개강
3월 11일(수)부터 5월 27일(수)까지 총 10회 강의로 구성
비영리 한인 미술인 지원 단체 알재단(AHL Foundation, 대표 이숙녀)은 2026년 3월 11일(수)부터 5월 27일(수)까지 총 10회로 구성된 미술사 온라인 강의를 진행한다. 강의는 영어로 진행되며, 미 동부시간 기준 매주 수요일 저녁 8시에 열린다.
2016년에 설립된 알재단의 미술사 프로그램은 그간 한국어 강의를 통해 한인 이민 사회에 현대 미술에 대한 접근 기회를 제공해 왔다. 프로그램 창립 10주년을 기념하여, 영어 강좌를 새롭게 개설해 비한국어권 청중들에게 한국 현대미술의 다양한 흐름과 맥락을 폭넓게 이해할 수 있는 시각을 제시할 예정이다.
한편, 이번 강의는 한국어 미술사 강의를 진행해 온 고진영 박사가 연사로 참여한다. 강의 제목은 ‘한국 미술의 물결(Korean Art Wave)’로, 수강생들은 미국 주요 문화 기관에 소장된 한국 미술 작품을 중심으로 한국 미술의 전개와 영향력을 탐구하게 된다. 또한 실제 전시 일정과 연계된 커리큘럼을 통해, 수강생들이 ‘이건희 컬렉션’과 같은 국보급 유물을 직접 접하며 보다 심도 있게 한국의 문화 유산을 살펴볼 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.

한편, 이번 강의를 진행하는 고진영 박사는 컬럼비아 대학에서 미술교육학 박사 학위를, 캘리포니아 예술대학(California Institute of the Arts)에서 사진 및 미디어 분야 현대미술 석사 학위를 취득하였다. 작가로서 고 박사의 작품은 필라델피아 미술관(The Philadelphia Museum of Art), 시카고 아트 인스티튜트(The Art Institute of Chicago), 록펠러 재단(The Rockefeller Foundation) 등 주요 기관의 컬렉션에 소장되어 있으며, 현재 매릴랜드 토우슨 대학교(Towson University, Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education)에서 미술사·디자인·미술교육학 분야 조교수로 재직 중이다.
