AHL Foundation is pleased to announce its Fall 2026 English-language Art History course, a 10-session online program running from Thursday, September 17 through Thursday, November 19, 2026. The course will be conducted in English and held every Thursday from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EST), with archived recordings available for participants who wish to review sessions at their own pace.
Founded in 2016, AHL Foundation’s Art History program has introduced audiences to Korean and global art through accessible online lectures. Building on the success of its English-language program, the Foundation continues to expand opportunities for English-speaking participants to engage with art history while fostering cross-cultural dialogue and critical appreciation.
The course will be led by Dr. Jinyoung Koh, who has been teaching AHL Foundation’s Korean-language Art History program. This semester’s course, “Art Appreciation: Seeing Art Through Philosophy,” explores art through philosophical perspectives, approaching artworks as ways of seeing, experiencing, and interpreting the world. Participants will examine Western aesthetics, nature philosophy, Eastern philosophy, Korean aesthetics, ontology, visual culture, deconstruction, ecological thought, new materialism, and contemporary discussions surrounding technology through diverse historical and contemporary artistic practices. By connecting philosophical ideas with works of art, the course encourages participants to develop new ways of seeing, deepen their understanding of the relationships among humans, nature, materiality, technology, and the world, and expand their critical appreciation and creative thinking.

About the Lecturer:
Dr. Jinyoung Koh is a graduate program director and an assistant professor in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education at Towson University in Maryland. Dr. Koh completed a Doctor of Education in Art & Art Education from Columbia University in New York. He earned a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His art has received numerous awards and is included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

알재단, 2026 가을학기 온라인 영어 미술사 수업 개강
9월 17일(목)부터 11월 19일(목)까지 총 10회 강의로 구성
비영리 한인 미술인 지원 단체 알재단(AHL Foundation, 대표 이숙녀)은 오는 2026년 9월 17일(목)부터 11월 19일(목)까지 총 10회로 구성된 온라인 미술사 강의를 진행한다. 강의는 영어로 진행되며, 미 동부시간 기준 매주 목요일 저녁 8시부터 9시까지 열린다.
2016년부터 운영해 온 알재단의 미술사 프로그램은 한국 미술과 세계 미술을 폭넓게 소개하며 예술에 대한 이해를 넓히는 교육 프로그램으로 자리매김 해왔다. 영어 강좌는 영어권 수강생들이 미술사를 보다 쉽게 접하고, 다양한 문화적 배경을 가진 참가자들이 함께 예술을 매개로 교류할 수 있도록 마련되었다.
이번 강의는 한국어 미술사 강의를 진행해 온 고진영 박사가 연사로 참여한다. 강의 제목은 ‘예술 감상: 철학을 통해 바라보는 예술(Art Appreciation: Seeing Art Through Philosophy)’로, 예술을 세계를 이해하고 경험하는 하나의 방식으로 바라보는 철학적 접근을 소개한다. 수강생들은 서양 미학과 자연철학, 동양철학, 한국 미학, 존재론, 시각문화, 해체주의, 생태철학, 신유물론, 그리고 기술철학에 이르기까지 다양한 철학적 사유를 역사적·동시대 예술 작품과 함께 살펴보며, 작품을 바라보는 새로운 시각과 비판적 감상 능력을 기르게 된다.

한편, 이번 강의를 진행하는 고진영 박사는 메릴랜드주 타우슨대학교(Towson University) 예술·디자인, 미술사, 미술교육학과의 대학원 프로그램 디렉터이자 부교수이다. 뉴욕 컬럼비아대학교(Columbia University)에서 예술 및 미술교육학 박사를 취득하였으며, 캘리포니아 예술대학(California Institute of the Arts)에서 미술석사(MFA), 시카고 예술학교(School of the Art Institute of Chicago)에서 미술학사(BFA)를 받았다. 그의 융합적 예술 실천은 다수의 수상 경력을 보유하고 있으며, 작품은 필라델피아 미술관(Philadelphia Museum of Art), 시카고 미술관(Art Institute of Chicago), 록펠러 재단(Rockefeller Foundation) 등의 소장품에 포함되어 있다.
