Artist Talk by Toma Peiu Held at AHL as Part of To time, to distance

AHL Foundation invites you to Blissful Displacement: Work, Life and Art in the Diaspora, a performance-lecture by Toma Peiu, presented as part of the public program for To time, to distance.
In this performative lecture, scholar, filmmaker and visual artist, Toma Peiu takes participants on a sensory walk inspired by his decade-long ethnographic research and oral history work with Korean Central Asians living in New York and New Jersey, that inspired the installation I’m Right Here, So We’re All Scattered, and the work-in-progress film How Come We Ended Up Here?, created in collaboration with Luiza Pârvu. Introducing the concept of “blissful displacement”, Peiu’s work posits imaginaries of migration and displacement as catalysts for bricolage, resilience and transformative insight in the 21st century global metropolis. Dr. Peiu will lead an embodied presentation and exploration of place, memory, history that will blur the boundaries between the art gallery and the life experiences that shape the work of diasporas and migrant artists.
The event will take place at AHL Foundation. Advance registration is required.

토마 페이우 아티스트 토크, ‘To time, to distance’ 프로그램의 일환으로 AHL에서 개최

AHL 재단은 Blissful Displacement: Work, Life and Art in the Diaspora라는 퍼포먼스-강연을 개최한다. 이번 강연은 ‘To Time, To Distance’ 프로그램의 일부로 진행되며, 학자이자 영화감독, 시각예술가인 Toma Peiu가 진행한다.
이번 퍼포먼스-강연에서 Toma Peiu는 참여자들을 감각적인 여정으로 이끌 예정이다. 이 여정은 뉴욕과 뉴저지에 거주하는 고려인(중앙아시아 한인 디아스포라) 공동체와 함께 진행해온 10여 년간의 민족지학 연구와 구술사 작업에서 영감을 받았다. 이 연구는 그의 설치 작업 I’m Right Here, So We’re All Scattered와 루이자 퍼르부(Luiza Pârvu)와 함께 제작 중인 영화 프로젝트 *How Come We Ended Up Here?*에 바탕이 되었다.
‘행복한 전위(blissful displacement)’라는 개념을 소개하며, Peiu는 이주와 이동의 경험을 21세기 글로벌 도시에서 브리콜라주, 회복력, 그리고 새로운 통찰을 촉발하는 생성적 조건으로 바라본다. 이번 강연은 장소, 기억, 역사에 대한 체화된 탐구로 진행되며, 미술관이라는 공간과 디아스포라 및 이주 예술가들의 삶의 경험 사이의 경계를 흐릿하게 만들 것이다.
