Showcasing new works by system-impacted youth through collaboration as part of the AHL Foundation’s Space Partnership Program

The AHL Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting Korean artists, will present Symphony, an exhibition featuring new works hosted by Artistic Noise—a Harlem-based nonprofit arts organization—at the AHL Foundation Gallery from Tuesday, July 8, 2025, as part of its Space Partnership Program.

Artistic Noise is a Harlem-based nonprofit arts organization that has created visual arts and therapeutic programs in collaboration with thousands of young people whose lives have been impacted by the juvenile court system, foster care system, mental health care systems, and more. Through various programs and workshops, the young artists express themselves creatively, work collaboratively, build community, manifest visions of their futures, and develop a variety of leadership skills in the process. The AHL Foundation has been working closely with Artistic Noise in the fields of art, public art, and education through Space Partnership exhibitions and the Murals on Display program (May 2025 – July 2025).

The upcoming exhibition will showcase works created by participants in Artistic Noise’s 2024–25 Art & Entrepreneurship program during their 12-month cohort period. Additionally, works by alumni artists from Artistic Noise’s Art & Care program and residency initiatives will also be presented. The exhibited works explore a wide range of contemporary themes including romantic relationships, self-identity, interpersonal violence, the school-to-prison pipeline, fashion, adolescence, and more. All artworks are available for purchase, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the young artists who created the work.

From the Symphony wall text, participants from the Art & Entrepreneurship program shared:
“A symphony occurs when everyone comes together to create something beautiful. We’re orchestrating a space to showcase our own personal exploration. We are co-existing, being patient, and learning to be vulnerable. Please take the time to get to know us through our art. We ask you: When does making Artistic Noise turn into a symphony? What is noise without harmony?”

This exhibition is part of the AHL Foundation’s Space Partnership Program, which aims to provide artists and curators with unique opportunities while offering the public a space to appreciate and experience cultural and artistic expressions. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, July 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition will remain on view through Saturday, July 19, and will be open to the public during gallery hours, Wednesday through Saturday, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

비영리 한인 미술인 지원단체 알재단(AHL Foundation, 대표 이숙녀)의 스페이스 파트너십 프로그램을 통해 선정된 할렘 기반 비영리 예술 단체 아티스틱 노이즈(Artistic Noise)와 다양한 테마의 신작을 선보이는 전시 “Symphony”를 2025년 7월 8일(화)부터 알재단 갤러리에서 개최한다.

아티스틱 노이즈는 보호관찰, 위탁 제도, 소년 재판 등 제도권의 영향을 받은 청소년들이 예술을 통해 자아 탐구와 역량 강화, 그리고 이를 통해 지역 사회와 연결될 수 있도록 지원하는 할렘 기반의 비영리 재단이다. 알재단은 파트너쉽 전시, Murals on Display 프로그램을 통해 아티스틱 노이즈와 예술, 공공미술, 교육 방면에서 긴밀히 협력하고 있다.

이번 전시에서는 아티스틱 노이즈의 2024-25 Art & Entrepreneurship 프로그램 참가자들이 12개월의 코호트 활동 기간 동안 창작한 작품들을 선보인다. 또한 Artistic Noise의 Art & Care 프로그램과 레지던시 이니셔티브에 참여한 동문 예술가들의 작품도 함께 전시된다. 전시작들은 연인 관계, 자아, 대인 폭력, 학교에서 감옥으로 이어지는 파이프라인, 패션, 청춘 등 현대적인 다양한 주제를 담고 있다. 모든 작품은 구매할 수 있으며, 판매 수익은 전액이 참여한 젊은 작가들에게 직접 전달된다.

“Symphony”의 전시 서문에서 한 Art & Entrepreneurship 프로그램 참가자는 다음과 같이 밝혔다. “조화는 모든 이가 함께 모여 아름다운 무언가를 만들 때 생겨난다. 우리는 개인의 확장을 선보이기 위해 공간을 조율했다. 우리는 공존하고, 인내하며, 약해지는 법을 배운다. 부디 우리의 예술을 통해 우리를 알아가는 시간을 가지시길 바란다. 우리는 질문한다. 예술적 잡음(Artistic Noise)은 언제 교향곡이 되는가? 조화가 없는 잡음은 어떤 것인가?”

본 전시는 알재단이 갤러리 공간 협력을 통해 예술가와 큐레이터에게는 작품을 선보일 기회를 제공하고, 대중에게는 문화와 예술에 가까워질 수 있는 커뮤니티 공간으로 다가가기 위한 스페이스 파트너십 프로그램의 일환으로 기획되었다. 오프닝 리셉션은 7월 8일(화) 오후 6시부터 8시까지 진행되며, 전시는 7월 19일(토)까지 매주 수요일에서 토요일까지 갤러리 운영 시간(12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)에 관람할 수 있다.
